Follow the steps below to configure Windows Live Mail for use with your 1&1 e-mail account using the POP3 protocol.

Please note:

1&1 suggests the use of IMAP over POP3. You can find out why by reading the Difference Between POP3 and IMAP E-mail Accounts.

Windows Live Mail was only included with Windows operating systems starting with Windows 7. If your computer is not running Windows 7, please reference the List of E-mail Programs to view some popular e-mail programs that may be compatible with your operating system.

Step 1

Open Windows Live Mail and select Add e-mail account from the left hand side.

Click Add e-mail account

Step 2

Enter your full E-mail address, Password, Display Name and check the box forRemember password if you do not want to enter your e-mail account's password every time you check or send mail. When you are finished, click the Next button.

Step 3

Select POP3 from the drop-down box.

Select POP3 as the protocol

Step 4

Enter pop.1and1.co.uk as the Incoming server address.
Check the box for This server requires a secure connection (SSL) and ensure that the Incoming server port is set to 995.
Ensure that Clear text authentication is selected from the drop-down menus
Enter your full 1&1 e-mail address in the text box for Login ID (if different from e-mail address).
Enter smtp.1and1.com in the text box for Outgoing Server.
Check the box for This server requires a secure connection (SSL) and ensure that the Outgoing server port is set to 587.
Check the box for My outgoing server requires authentication.

When finished, click the Next button.

Step 5

Click the Finish button.

Click Finish

Step 6

Setup is complete! You will see your account on the left hand side of the Windows Live Mail window.
