Set Up E-mail with Windows Live Mail using IMAP

Follow the steps below to configure Windows Live Mail for use with your 1&1 e-mail account using IMAP Protocol.

Windows Live Mail was only included with Windows operating systems starting with Windows 7. If your computer is not running Windows 7, please refer to the List of E-mail Programs may be compatible with your operating system.

Step 1
Open Windows Live Mail and select Add e-mail account from the left hand side. Select Add e-mail account

Enter your full E-mail address (A), Password (B), Display Name (C) and check the box forRemember password if you do not want to enter your e-mail account's password ever time you check or send mail. When you are finished, click the Next button. Enter the required information

Select IMAP from the drop-down box.

  • Enter imap.1and1.co.uk as the Incoming server address.
  • Check the box for This server requires a secure connection (SSL) and ensure that the Incoming server port is set to 993.
  • Ensure that Clear text authentication is selected from the drop-down menus
  • Enter your full 1&1 e-mail address in the text box for Login ID (if different from e-mail address)
  • Enter auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk in the text box for Outgoing Server.
  • Check the box for This server requires a secure connection (SSL) and ensure that the Outgoing server port is set to 587.
  • Check the box for My outgoing server requires authentication.
  • When finished, click the Next button.

This next window will allow you to choose which folders to show or hide. By default all folders are set to show. This is the recommended configuration. Otherwise you may select folders to hide and when finished, click the OK button. Hide or unhide folders and click OK

Setup is complete! You will see your account on the left hand side of the Windows Live Mail window. You account should be setup
